If you live somewhere with a lot of sunshine, but where the temperature varies, a sunroom is a great way to take in the sunlight and natural beauty of your backyard. A sunroom provides you with a protected area to enjoy the views without having to be out in the cold or hot weather. Windows are one of the most important elements of a sunroom.

#1 Hinged Windows

Hinged windows are great for a sunroom because you are able to fully open up the window and get a lot of fresh air circulating throughout your sunroom. There are two different types of hinged windows.

Awning windows are long horizontal windows that are designed to open from the top. Awning windows are often located above doors or other windows. Awning windows really help with ventilation while keeping rain and water out of your sunroom.

Casement windows are the other type of hinged windows. Casement windows are more vertically orientated and look more like a regular window. Casement windows can swing all the way open, allowing for great ventilation in your sunroom.

#2 Sliding Windows

Sliding windows are a classic window style that work well in sunrooms. Sliding windows have one fixed pane of glass and one pane of glass that is moveable. Sliding windows are extremely popular because they come in a wide range of sizes and are generally affordable and easy to install.

#3 Bay Windows

Another great option for a sunroom are some bay windows. Bay windows are often made out of picture windows that do not open. However, you can also use double-hung or sliding windows in a bay window arrangement as well. Oftentimes the side windows in a bay window arrangement open, with the middle window being a picture window.

Bay windows are great because they pop-out from your sunroom, and create a little seating area. This can allow you to sit in your window, and feel like you are almost outside.

When designing your sunroom, focus on bringing light into the space and providing for adequate ventilation. You want your sunroom to be a bright and comfortable place to hang out.
